A designer's X account: ten quiet weeks, then 10K in about six months
Jay opened the account in August 2024 and posted to almost nobody for ten weeks. In November he launched his own Framer template, started posting design work two to four times a day and gave away free files for a like, a repost and a comment. He says he hit 10K in February 2025; today he has 42K.

Summary
The play
Post your own design work every day, before and after; give away a file for a like, a repost and a comment; tie every post to something you sell.
Can you copy it? Our read
What you can copy is the mechanics: daily work posts, giveaways for a comment, a milestone gift. What you can't copy is the portfolio. Fits a working designer with files to give away.
- What it takes
- Design work good enough to show every day, and at least one file people would want.
- Startup cost
- Your time and a few free files; no paid tools needed.
- Time to a verdict
- Judge it a month after your first giveaway: his launch post did 20 times anything before it.
- Window
- The giveaway format is now common on design X, so the file has to be better than the others on offer.
Key findings
Nothing happened for ten weeks
The first 68 posts had a median of 165 views. The turn came the week he launched a free template and quadrupled his posting. See play 2.1 (subscribers)
The giveaway did the heavy lifting
Seven like-repost-comment giveaways had a median of 105K views, 27 times his median at the time, and drew 4,334 replies. See play 2.2 (subscribers)
His thread mostly checks out, except on replies
Two to four posts a day holds. "Four months" holds only from November. "I don't really reply" does not: each of the four weeks with reply counts had more replies than posts.
Later, jokes beat the portfolio
After April 2025 his posts got shorter and jokier; his three biggest posts ever, at 2.9M to 5.25M views, are jokes about design.

Their own numbers, checked
His February 2025 thread explained how he grew. We checked what can be checked against the public posts:
| What he said (self-reported) | What the data shows (fact) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| "0 to 10K followers in 4 months" | About 6 months from opening the account; about 3.5 months from the week he started posting daily | Holds only if you count from November |
| "I've been posting 2–4 times a day" | Nov 4, 2024 to Mar 31, 2025: 403 posts and quotes, 2.7 a day | Holds |
| "I don't really do any reply, only when I really like someone's content" | Four weeks with reply counts: at least 200, 40, 89 and 68 replies, against 37, 21, 32 and 24 posts in the same weeks | Does not hold: each of those weeks had more replies than posts |
| Clean white roasts do better than dark ones | — | Can't check (we did not sort posts by colour) |
| Every post had a monetisation angle | Posts about his templates and components: 108, median 3,700 views, below his median | Holds as a description; those posts sell rather than grow |
